FAQ

MediaHeal for CD and DVD Frequently Asked Questions

If you have a problem that is not covered by this FAQ, do not hesitate to contact our technical support team.

What file types is MediaHeal for CD and DVD able to repair?

MediaHeal for CD and DVD is not a software for recovering one particular file type. The software restores all the information available on damaged media.

I have tried the demo. How do decide whether to purchase the full version of MediaHeal for CD and DVD?

You can decide this by evaluating the results of demo recovery. The demo version recovers only the media structure (including folders and files contained there) wiping out the data stored in the files. It puts the demo-version information there instead. Actually, demo version creates text files with extensions of the original files.

Note that no additional files will be recovered by commercial version of MediaHeal for CD and DVD if not present in demo output.

For more information see the MediaHeal for CD and DVD online help.

What is the difference between Single User and Ten Pack license types?

The license type refers to the number of copies to be used simultaneously. Single User type allows installing one copy of MediaHeal for CD and DVD at once. Primary user of the computer where the MediaHeal for CD and DVD is installed may have another copy on their portable computer for exclusive usage.

Volume license (e.g. Ten Pack) gives the right to install additional copies of MediaHeal for CD and DVD accordingly to the number of licenses purchased, and each copy may be used as specified above.

Both types of license do not have any limitations on the number, size and authorship of the files to be recovered.

Why are restored files smaller than original ones?

This is possible. Some damaged disk areas may become unreadable at all and, so, can not be accessed even with our software. In these cases the data there gets lost forever.

In case of severe corruption some of the restored file might become inaccessible. You can try to save data from these files using one of our recovery tools. Please, visit the Products page for complete list of the software products.

Demo recovered files do not contain any real data within, and therefore are noticeably smaller than originals.

I'm getting an Internal Program Error while using MediaHeal for CD and DVD. What can be done?

Please, run MediaHeal for CD and DVD in a logged mode and contact our support team with detailed description of the problem and the log file.

To create log file, please hold the SHIFT key while clicking the Scan button on the toolbar or selecting the Scan: item in the main menu. You can also press CTRL+SHIFT+R after launching the program.

I'm getting an error message that there's not enough free space. Is there a workaround for this?

Yes, if there is other drive with free space available (2-3 times of the corrupted media capacity). Fix the Windows environment variable to use it. Do the following:

  1. Open System in Control Panel.
  2. On the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables, then click the name of the user variable (TEMP or TMP) you want to change.
  3. Click Edit to change value.
  4. Set path to the location where temporary data should be stored (e.g., e:\).
  5. Restart computer for changes to take in effect.
  6. Run the software again.
