Use Cases

Recovery for Oracle provides database administrators the capability to recover information from corrupted databases.

Oracle block corruption is a leading cause of database integrity loss. As a result, users may partially or completely lose access to information stored in a corrupted database.

A standard method for preventing these situations is using Oracle RMAN. Oracle Recovery Manager helps to back up and restore databases and detect block corruption. However, using RMAN to restore a database means that there should be available a reasonably recent backup to restore from.

But what if the backup is unavailable, corrupted, too old, or the pre-failure updates to the corrupted database are just too important to lose?

Enter dbms_repair, a standard utility for repairing block corruption. While it can fix relatively simple cases, there are several reasons why Recovery for Oracle can perform better.

Recovery for Oracle advantages over dbms_repair are:

Working together, these advanced features can help DBA to recover Oracle database better and faster than with using standard recovery utilities.

In some cases, dbms_repair can completely fail to repair Oracle database, while Recovery for Oracle can still perform strongly, extracting significant amounts of important user data.
